The Royal Hordes Nomad Peoples of the steppes / E.D. Phillips (1965)
Titre : The Royal Hordes Nomad Peoples of the steppes Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : E.D. Phillips, Auteur Editeur : London [Angleterre] : Thames and Hudson Année de publication : 1965 Importance : 144 p. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Scythes Sarmatians Huns Index. décimale : 0310 Hoz, koçerî... | Tribus, nomadisme... | Tribes, nomadism... | هۆز Ùˆ تیرە، کۆچەری Note de contenu : The book is a very brief history of the nomads in the Eurasian steppes from about 4000 BCE to 500 CE, with a lot of the text spent talking about the art of the Scythians and other cultures with a wealth of photographs and diagrams to illustrate.
The book is quite out of date in a few places; but I do find comparing older assumptions of history and how they have changed in the present quite fascinating, especially the times that some archaeological sites here are now reckoned to be much older than stated in the book.
But away from its problems the book manages to introduce this period very well, I feel. If a book similar to this could be published now, all up-to-date, that would be marvellous. It's full of mid-20th century historical vigour.Permalink : https://pmb.institutkurde.org/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=15375 The Royal Hordes Nomad Peoples of the steppes [texte imprimé] / E.D.
